Going to the dentist might not always be a pleasant experience and many patients have dental anxiety or fear of dental visits. We understand that fear of pain or discomfort could be holding you back from getting dental treatment and are here to make sure all your visits with us are pleasant and stress-free. We offer sedation dentistry, including IV sedation, at our modern practice in Midland, TX, to help you feel calm and relaxed throughout treatment. Many patients find it much easier to get through their treatment plan when they do not have to worry about pain.
In addition to local anesthetic which is injected directly into the gums or cheek to numb the area, we offer other forms of sedation that help a patient feel relaxed and get numb easily during treatment. IV sedation, or intravenous sedation, involves administering an IV of anesthetic directly into the bloodstream. This helps induce a deep state of relaxation which wears off several hours after the dental visit.
We also offer oral sedation for patients who struggle with mild to moderate dental anxiety, and who may not require IV sedation. This form of sedation dentistry involves taking prescription anti-anxiety medication about an hour before treatment. You will feel very relaxed throughout your visit and may even nap during or after treatment. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is one of the most commonly used types of sedation. You inhale a gas through a mask and we can control the depth of sedation by increasing or decreasing the amount of gas. You will feel drowsy and numb throughout the procedure but will return to normal within minutes of the gas being stopped. This form of sedation dentistry is especially effective for patients undergoing lengthy or multiple procedures.
