Overview

How do I get seen for a dental emergency?

Call the office as soon as you can. Monday through Thursday, we keep time open in the schedule for emergencies, so if you have a toothache or a broken tooth we can usually see you the same day, whether or not you're already a patient. After hours and from Friday to Sunday, call the office and follow the instructions in the message. Our front desk and assistants speak Spanish.

Call us right away if you have...

Not sure whether it's an emergency? Call and tell us what's happening, and we'll help you decide how soon you need to be seen.

  • A toothache that keeps you up or won't go away
  • A broken, cracked or chipped tooth
  • A knocked-out or loose permanent tooth
  • Swelling in your gums or face
  • A lost crown or filling

What to do

Common dental emergencies

Whatever happened, call us first and we'll tell you what to do next.

Request an appointment
  • Toothache

Pain can come from a cavity, a crack or an infection. Call us; we'll find the cause and treat it.

  • Broken or Chipped Tooth

Save any pieces you can find and call us. Depending on the break, bonding, a filling or a crown may repair it.

  • Knocked-Out Tooth

Pick the tooth up by the top (the crown), not the root, keep it moist in milk, and call us right away.

  • Swelling

Swelling can mean an infection that needs care soon. If it makes it hard to breathe or swallow, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

  • Lost Crown or Filling

Keep the crown if you have it, and call us to have the tooth checked and the crown or filling replaced.

What to expect when you call

  • Time kept open for same-day emergency visits, Monday to Thursday
  • New patients seen for emergencies
  • Spanish spoken at the front desk and by our assistants
  • Digital X-rays and 3D imaging in the office
  • Sedation options if you're anxious
  • Follow-up treatment in the same office

The process

What happens at an emergency visit

  1. Call the office

Tell us what happened. Monday to Thursday, we'll find you a time, the same day when we can.

  2. Exam and relief

The doctor examines the tooth, takes X-rays if needed, and focuses first on relieving your pain and protecting the tooth.

  3. A plan for the tooth

We explain your options for fixing the problem, whether that's a filling, a crown, a root canal or another treatment, and schedule what's next.
