Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy, to save your tooth

When the nerve inside a tooth is infected or inflamed, a root canal removes the infection and saves the tooth. Dr. Jordon Green treats front teeth and premolars here in the office.

You may need a root canal if you have...

Only an exam and X-rays can tell for sure, but these are common signs:

  • Tooth pain that lingers or keeps coming back
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold that stays after the food or drink is gone
  • A tooth that has darkened
  • Swelling or a pimple-like bump on the gum near a tooth

Overview

Which teeth do you treat?

Dr. Jordon Green does root canals on front teeth and premolars. Root canals on molars, the large back teeth with more complex roots, are referred to another office. A root canal removes the infected or inflamed pulp inside the tooth, then cleans, disinfects and seals the canals, so you keep your natural tooth instead of losing it. Many teeth need a crown afterward to protect them, and Dr. Green places those as well.

Why save the tooth?

  • Stops the pain from an infected tooth
  • Keeps your natural tooth
  • Removes the infection at its source
  • Avoids replacing the tooth with an implant or bridge
  • You're numb throughout, with sedation available
  • Crowns made in the same office

The process

How a root canal works

  1. Exam and X-rays

Dr. Green examines the tooth and takes X-rays to confirm the problem and see the roots.

  2. Treatment

With the tooth numb, the infected pulp is removed and the canals are cleaned, disinfected and sealed.

  3. Protecting the tooth

The tooth is closed with a filling, and a crown is added if it needs extra strength.
