Restorative Dentistry

Cavities fixed, without silver fillings

We place tooth-colored fillings only, never new silver ones. For larger areas of decay, inlays and onlays restore the tooth with a custom piece made to fit it.

You may need a filling if you notice...

Cavities often cause no symptoms at first, which is why checkups and X-rays matter. See us if you notice:

  • Sensitivity to sweets, hot or cold
  • A rough spot, hole or dark area on a tooth
  • Food catching in the same place between teeth
  • An old filling that's chipped or worn

Overview

Filling, inlay or onlay?

A filling repairs a small or medium cavity: Dr. Jordon Green removes the decay and fills the space with tooth-colored composite, shaped to the tooth and matched to its shade. When the decay or damage is too large for a filling but the tooth doesn't need a full crown, an inlay (which fits within the chewing surface) or an onlay (which also covers one or more of the tooth's points, or cusps) is custom-made to fit. We don't place new silver (amalgam) fillings.

3 options

Three ways to restore a tooth

Not sure which you need? Your doctor will walk you through the options at your consultation.

  • Tooth-Colored Fillings

Composite resin that repairs small and medium cavities and blends in with your tooth.

  • Inlays

A custom restoration that fits within the chewing surface of a back tooth when decay is too large for a filling.

  • Onlays

Like an inlay, but it also covers one or more cusps, restoring more of the chewing surface without a full crown.

Why tooth-colored?

  • Blends in with your natural teeth
  • No new silver fillings
  • Restores strength and stops decay
  • Inlays and onlays for larger areas of decay
  • Often saves more natural tooth than a crown
  • Digital scans instead of putty impressions

The process

How it works

  1. Find the decay

An exam and digital X-rays show where the decay is and how deep it goes.

  2. Remove and restore

With the tooth numb, Dr. Green removes the decay and places a tooth-colored filling, or prepares the tooth for an inlay or onlay.

  3. Finish and check your bite

The restoration is shaped and polished, and your bite is checked so it feels natural.
